Rob Lowe is not a lead in Parks and Recreation. Rob Lowe didn’t even become a series regular until the beginning of season 3, and in fact, I would have trouble saying he’s part of the ensemble. I would much rather see him not nominated at all, and have Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt or Adam Scott in the running for Best Supporting Actor. He’s never really had a lead storyline (his relationship with Ann might be the only exception) I find that he is rarely included in group scenes, nor does he interact with more than one other character at a time. He seems to pop up when the story calls for a dilemma, or conflict in the story. To me he is just a glorified troublemaker.
While I think many people agree (as do I) that there needs to be an “Ensemble” category at the Emmys, I also think that Actors need to seriously evaluate where there characters stand in a show. I feel like Rob submitting himself for a lead actor nomination is actually really insulting to the other actors in his cast. Nick Offerman would be the only male in the cast that I would support as a Lead role. He has continuously proved his acting/comedy chops, and has had many leading story lines. Some of which are arguably the best episodes of the series (Ron & Tammy, The Hunting Trip). I also feel like its insulting to Amy Poehler. Could you imagine if (by some crazy fluke) Rob Lowe won for Lead Actor and Amy Poehler didn’t??? I think the Internet would riot.
So basically what I’m saying is, Rob Lowe: You’re full of shit. You are quite literally not the best actor on the show. I think every actor on Parks and Recreation (Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Rashida Jones, and Aziz Ansari) deserve a nomination before you do. While your acting is great (I’m not denying this), you have not put in 3 years of your life (neither has Adam Scott, but his character development this season was amazing) into this show. You have not had the story lines, development, or acting chops that these other actors have. Please get off your high horse and let the real stars of this show shine.
Okay, that’s enough ranting.
